The Seven Supporters of Conflict

In conflict situations there are usually certain “attitudes” or “agendas” taking place in people, organizations, governments or groups that exacerbate the conflict rather than resolving it. The telltale signs are:

  • Pride

  • Envy

  • Boasting

  • Anger

  • Selfishness

  • Blaming

  • Evil Intentions

The Seven Keys to Breaking Through Conflict

Since these supporters of conflict are built upon the foundation of self-centeredness, the way to break the bonds of conflict is to move to a place of caring for others in a way that is selfless. This characteristic of “loving the other” is defined by these seven traits:

  • Practicing Patience

  • Speaking the Truth

  • Being Kind to the Other

  • Protecting the Other

  • Trusting the Other

  • Being Hopeful of New Outcomes

  • Seeing the Process Through to Completion

The Process for Healing

A time-tested and even “sacred” process for dealing with conflict, disagreement and disputes centers on these four principles:

  • Eat a meal together—This brings out the humanity and common connections that everyone shares.

  • Get to know each other personally—Open up and share: likes, dislikes, hurts, joys, hopes, dreams, family, etc.

  • Listen to the voice of truth—Seek out wise council and follow a process that heals the inner hurts and deals with the dark side of human nature.

  • Pray together—Be willing to move into sacred space and pray together in a fashion comfortable to the participants, or allow a third party mediator to pray.
